ABOUT THE PROJECT
Kenya – Mentorship of project partners
‘A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.’
Supporting local and international project partners through every project phase is a cornerstone of my work. By focusing on communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building, I ensure sustainable project success. My approach includes personal transformation support for partners, helping them navigate increased responsibilities and challenges as community leaders. Regular program oversight, including annual trips for project assessment, ensures accountability and continued growth.
Key Highlights:
- Holistic Project Support: Assist local and international partners through planning, implementation, and sustainability phases, with a focus on effective communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building.
- Personal and Leadership Development: Support partners through their personal transformation, addressing new demands, challenges, and increased responsibilities as community leaders.
- Program Oversight and Accountability: Provide guidance and oversight with annual trips to the community for project assessment and accountability, ensuring sustained success and growth.
Working with project partners, both locally and internationally, has always been integral to my work. This collaboration occurs both directly within projects and remotely, especially in recent years. Building strong relationships, understanding our shared vision and needs, and addressing challenges together are the cornerstones of my approach. My work involves mediating between different cultural perspectives, fostering mutual learning, and ensuring effective communication.
Initially, my focus was on planning and managing projects, helping local partners acquire essential project management skills. However, I soon realized that true success lies not only in project outcomes but also in the personal development of our partners. It became clear that teaching mindset and social skills is crucial for their growth as leaders.
Many of our partners started with limited experience and education but possessed a deep commitment to effecting positive change in their communities. Their conviction and drive make them invaluable. As they receive support, they quickly grow in their roles, taking on more responsibilities and expectations. This growth demands new skills in project management and relationship-building, both locally and with international partners.
I support these partners by helping them understand their own circumstances, behaviors, and beliefs, which are vital for effective visioning, planning, and project execution. I also guide them in communicating their experiences and solutions to international partners, fostering mutual understanding. Similarly, I help international partners shift from a one-sided approach to a collaborative vision, promoting equal growth and benefits.
Personal support for local partners is another critical aspect of my mentorship. Their increased influence and responsibilities can be overwhelming. I help them reflect on their experiences, stay connected to their vision and values, navigate conflicts, and maintain their authenticity and integrity.
In summary, my work is about empowering partners through comprehensive support, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to lead successful, sustainable projects that benefit their communities
